The question

How can the Greater Mekong countries build climate-friendly, safe and inclusive agri-food value chains, including harmonized livestock safety and traceability systems?

What BEAR found

665Cattle tagged in the Lao PDR traceability pilot
145Smallholder producers trained, with more than 50 market intermediaries
730 kmLength of the trade corridor the pilot covered

BEAR helped pilot a livestock traceability demonstration in Lao PDR, tagging 665 cattle and training 145 smallholder producers and more than 50 market intermediaries along a 730 km corridor. A follow-up survey of value chain participants informed recommendations for expanding electronic traceability across the region.

The regional technical assistance covers Cambodia, the People’s Republic of China, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Viet Nam.

Method

Field pilot with tagging, training and a value chain survey, within a regional capacity development program of policy work, training and digital traceability delivered by a consulting consortium.
